    Rigid Tapping OM-D problem

I am working on a Atrump Mill with OM-D control.

When rigid tapping (M29S300, G84.......), at the bottom of the stroke, the Z axis does not synchonize with the decel/reverse/accel of the spindle.

I see this happening because I am using a tension/compression holder. At the bottom of the stroke, I can see the Z axis stop very fast, the spindle decel, and the tension holder start to pull out. The faster the spindle speed, the further apart the holder pulls out.

I am pretty sure the mill is able to do rigid tapping because I can do peck tapping (i.e. Q0.1) in the G84 tapping command. So the spindle must have an encoder for spindle orientation.

Has anyone ran into this problem? Is there a parameter that needs to be change? Without solving this problem, I can't really tap faster then 500 rpm and I have to use a tension tap holder.

    Many thanks in advance.

You possibly do not have rigid tapping option.
Pecking might be possible (I am not sure) in standard mode also.
Does the spindle automatically start at R-point without M03?

No, the spindle doesn't start without a M03. It would just sit there waiting forever (no alarm).

In rigid mode, M03 is not needed. Even if you specify it, the spindle would stop and restart again at the R-point.
You do not have rigid-tapping option on your machine.

with M03 and M29Sxxx in the code, the spindle would stop and start again at the R point. that's why I thought it might have rigid tapping. But they seem to do the same thing with or without M29. I guess it just doesn't do rigid tapping.
    Thanks.

Send me your 900 parameters via PM and I will have a look at what you have.

    Sinha,
I to would have suspected that if the spindle stops and starts "in sync" at the R-plane that this is rigid tapping? Any thoughts?
