I am looking at a new Mazak with Mazatrol. My question is we program only using G & M codes. Is the Mazatrol easy to work with using G & M code programing.

Mazatrol is really pretty simple, and the vast majority of lathe jobs can be programmed right at the machine.
Personally I prefer the comfort of programming at my desk, using a cad/cam package, then loading the post processed G-code into the control. With the Mazak, once you get accustomed to the way the Mazak thinks and learn how to lie to it, it's pretty quick programming.
You can also cut & paste segments from other programs into the current one to say a lot of time. The graphic ability to proof your toolpaths is also pretty good.
Have never run the milling equivalent, but I'm sure someone around here can chime in on that side.
Btw, you can load in G & M code programs. .... But you may end up wondering why, when you can take a print to the machine, and just punch it in.
