    Tapping in a Mori Lathe

I am having difficulty understanding the differences between the G84, G84.1, and G84.2 cycles.

    From What I have gathered,

G84 .... is used with a tapping head.

    M329 S...
G84 .... is used for rigid tapping.

G84.1 and G84.2 are also used for rigid tapping.

    So my questions are:

    1. Can anyone clarify which route I should use when rigid tapping?

    2. How do I differentiate between cross and face tapping?

    3. Are there additional considerations regarding RH vs. LH tapping?

I am working with a NLX2500 MAPS-IV, however, the manual that came with it says NL2500.

The manual I have describes three different tapping cycles. G84, G84.1, and G84.2.

These three cycles appear to be identical, other than the G-code. I would assume that they are different in some respect, and that is where my curiosity lies. When choosing the correct tapping cycle, what are my considerations?

From what i see in the manual G84 is for rigid tapping on face of the part and G88 would be for cross holes. I don't know exactly what configuration your machine is (Y axis? / Sub spindle? / etc..) but the manual shows you the difference between the two different types of codes. Essentially you just add a Y value in the G84 line if your machine has the Y axis. The G84.1 and G84.2 are actually the same as G84 and G88 except they are the codes for F15 format, they machine defaults to standard mode at installation so its doubtful that you will ever use these unless you do in fact run in F15 mode. As far as your last question goes I'm not 100% positive as to how to switch between RH and LH tapping, it may default to whatever the last command for the tool spindle was but thats just a guess at the moment

i'll pull some code tomorow for you

m329 is your spindle on/speed code
    84.1 is rh
    84.2 is lh

rigid tap is only on the live tools, main/sub spindles is an option
