Please excuse my noobishness but could this also be accomplished with say a boring bar in the same manner?

Id say no but an internal threading tool should be able to

  3. #2043
Maybe if you had one that has the cutting tip concentric to the shaft and the cutting edge at the center.
My threading tools that use inserts would need a lot of relief ground away from the tool and the rest of the insert, not going to happen.
A small single point carbide tool in a boring head might do but I'll have to make an adapter
to fit the smaller shaft then get the OD the tool is sweeping.
The ease and economy is going away.
I could grind one of my boring bars for the boring head to 60 degrees and give that a whirl though. hmmm

So you left me hanging even after I apologized, making me feel guilty for an innocent comment which by the way was saying Kudos.

My comment was based off your previous comment:
"Now I need a place to store some tools that are easy to access but I'm too lazy to pick them up myself.... "

Thanks Hoss. It's bugged me all week.

Dude, sorry, I used a smiley face in my comment to indicate it's light-heartedness.
Didn't think you'd take it so serious but don't give it any more thought, no problems here.
I'm nobody to feel guilty about.

    Hoss,

Did you do any lapping of the axis up to this point?

I was thinking of getting some Clover 400 & 800 grit to help bed-in the slides.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

    You guys are great.

Mike, I did a little bit after I put in the oil grooves and holes but nothing before that.

Thanks, the mill does all the work, I just sit back and watch, with my finger hovering the E-stop.

Parting off some stock for the next project sans bandsaw.
    1/4" rougher does the trick.

I got the long 1/4 inch rougher from CDCO for $5!
Bought several of their endmills to try out and for aluminum they work great.
Have been using the $4 3/16 endmill for a lot of machining jobs lately, very happy with them.
The previous motor test hogging videos used one of their $8 1/2 inch roughers.
