Just fyi, a bitmap is a raster image made up of individual pixels. You need a vector which is composed of lines and arcs.
The attached DXF was created using the technique posted previously.
It is "as saved," no editing or testing.
(Thanks Switcher)
Worked real good weldtutor, I have a bunch of different programs to deal with the cleanup, time comsuming, but all in all Switcher is right, it is a pretty good program. Thanks again
Well I talked to our IT people here and they will not let me download the software from Blogspot. they told me to go ahead and find something to purchase. what would be some of the best software to do these type of conversions? I know Adobe Streamline used to be good. Is that still the best?
Thanks for all your help.
CorelDraw....I think it's 350.00 well worth it. It has a "Trace" feature. you can trace clip art and other images and export as DXF or DWG or many many others.
If you have kids in school you can get an educational license for under $100 bucks. It is for private use only, and has no books with it.

If your trying to create code from bitmap or jpeg files try googling Bmp2CNC. I use it all the time and it'll do things that VCarve can only dream about doing. Sure I could spend half an arm and half a leg for BobCad or Rhino and do the same thing. But time is money and I don't have the time to waste learning a new program let alone how to even staart learning a CAD program. Bmp2CNC takes 2 to 5 minutes to create the code that I need. It's usually perfect and I can also save as a stl. file and view it in E-Drawings free viewer to check its right.
Hi everyone, having trouble getting inkscape to install on windows XP. Have downloaded ver 0.46, unzipped files but unable to go any further. Any info in getting started would be deeply appricated!!!!
Thanks all.
Hmmmm . I downloaded it yesterday and it loaded perfectly.... First the download comes as a install file there is no zip file......You may have done something wrong there, if not...Try disabling the firewall and spyware protection.
Inkscape Version 0.46 should install with no problems, I've installed on 2 Windows XP PC so far, everything went smooth.
Like blackbeard52 said, the actual Inkscape install shouldn't have any .zip files.
When you say .zip file, is that the file from my blog? If so, that .zip file includes 4 files, all 4 files need to go into the extensions folder
Here is the default path that Inkscape was installed on my PC: -------> C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\extensions
Just drag those 4 files into the (Inkscape) extensions folder, It should ask you If you want to replace 1 of the files, select "Yes".
Open the Inkscape program, & you should be able to see the new DXF R12 format, in the "Save As..." menu, when you go to save a dxf file.
