Likely from the leadscrew nut, are the antibacklash screws in the nut snug? and the setscrews securing the nut in the saddle?
    Got her oiled up?

I'll double check the antibacklash screws and setscrews for the nut in the saddle. I DO have it oiled. Maybe not the best kind of oil.. I was told chainsaw bar and chain oil worked pretty good.. Although, the stuff is black as day after being on the machine for a while.. I get that stuff all over me when I'm working around the screws, tighting up the gib locks etc.

If you haven't learned how yet, go look up on how to do a "Solid Sweep". It has limited functionality, but it's fun to see and it sounds exactly like what you're wanting to get a look at. You model the cutter in your part file and it lets you sweep it through the part leaving the cut. It will give you the radii hive8 was talking about in the process. Sorta like doing the CAM software's job for it, albeit the long way around.

Well, while waiting for my stock I might as well print out one of the parts just to see how it'll look on the mill.
Printing now and should be done by the time the ballgame is over.
It's first accessory will be my Dewalt aux spindle.
The bracket will also mate with the lathe toolholder.

    Homemade MPG

Hey Hoss, this will work with your 4th Axis.
This video shows how the MPG works on a Lathe, but works just as well on a Router.

Hi Hoss did you ever try this product, looks like you could control the spindle RPM for the router attachment... manual and also in mach 3.

Hey Bob, I remember that video, I'd imagine it'd work just fine.

Thanks hive, I have a manual variable speed controller for it now but that super-pid is way cooler, I'll have to think about it.

    Hey Hoss,

If you get back into your 3D printing in a big way, I just saw this video and thought, "here's a project worthy of Hoss's skills! I'm sure he could trick this one up to be industrial strength!"

Of course it would need a turret as well :-)

Yeah I've spotted that on thingiverse a few times though never downloaded it.
    It's more cute than practical.

Made the quill accessory bracket today, I'll powder coat it copper tomorrow.
The ID comes out perfect even with backlash comp when you take a finish pass.

    Hoss,

    Nice work!

Is this bracket is designed to clamp to the portion of the quill sleeve that extends below the head? I figured that might be a good way to mount an auxiliary high speed spindle....

Yeah that's what I had in mind.
I wonder if I still have all the pieces around to try this on there too.

Sent out an update for the Phase 1 conversion with new plans using direct drive with a large oldham coupler (size "P") from Mcmaster with one hub threaded M16x1.5 to replace the stock screws top jam nut.
I ordered an M16x1.5 tap on Ebay from China for less than $10 shipped free.
Can also use the same and thread the pulley for the belt driven version so the leadscrew extension is not needed.

That is exactly what i did for my leadscrew conversion. A note, I recommend the belt drive at 1:2 ratio, the direct drive for me at least would only go about 15-20ipm without stalling, the belt drive got it up to around 50ipm and the motor sounded a good bit healthier belt driven then the direct drive.

    Just my experiences:

I was using Keling 570 stepper
    5056D driver
    48V PS 12.5A

Belts are more often than not always a better option. They have a tendency to reduce vibration and fix micrometer sized shaft offsets. I wouldn't go any other way, even with stock screws.
