No need to do the Z flip to use the ATC 4. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjkzIf6g1HU&feature=plcp"]ATC 4[/ame].
Just need 10.5" clearance from the table to spindle nose to change tools.

I was watching the video and thought I saw the Gib adjustment screw on the left side of your Z. I didnt see the slot for the ball screw mount below so I was unsure. Thanks

  3. #3723
yeah, mine has the z flip done in the video but I don't go anywhere near as high as it could.
The stock mill is supposed to have about 13" spindle to table clearance, plenty of room.

    Great Thread!

I'm still working my way through it, have read through the first one, a third of this one and a few of the recent pages, plus a bunch of other threads.

I have a G0516 (C6/X2 combo) and was thinking about CNC'ing it but see that no one does that. Was also thinking about getting an X3 but see this G0704 may be a better choice.

Coincidentally, my G0516 came with a lathe motor that failed in a few minutes, and the repaired motor failed in a few minutes as well. I converted it to a treadmill motor before they could ship me a working motor. I still have a new G0516 motor in the box I should sell.

Have made a lot of parts on the G0516, mostly plastic, some aluminum, not much steel. Not a machinist, but have figured out how to make a few things and paid for the machine a few times over. But it would be nice to let the machine do more of the work, and allow me to make some more complex parts that I don't have the patience to make now.

The tool changer looks very interesting, would really like to have something like that when I do this. Would a simple solid back work instead of the spring loaded doors?

Any estimate on the current lead time on the G0704 from Grizzly?

Thanks for all your effort and support!

It's good you have the 0516 cause it would really help with doing a conversion on the 0704.
    A simple back?
There's no wait any longer on the 0704 at grizzly, they are caught up and all 3 warehouses show it in stock.

By a simple back I meant a rectangular cover attached to the rotating part of the tool holder. When rotated to the 'closed' position it would block the chips. Not as elegant as the spring loaded doors but seems like it would work.

  13. #3733
Yeah I tried a number of mockups including this one with a panel mounted to the rack.
Thought was it would rotating around inside the cover, problem was it interfered with the first and last tool position
and on this small rack hit the frame.
Twin doors worked out the best.
