Hi, my name is Ken, in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, and like everyone else here, I'm fascinated by CNC, but can't afford a ready made machine, so, with some advice from some more experienced people here, I'll just build one!! My ambition is to build a machine that I can expand the bed size, as needed, and also capable of fine work, such as an engraver, or as a 3D printer ( it uses the X,Y and Z axis, so, why not?) or as interchanging the heads for a plasma cutter, a high speed router, and possibly a hydro head as well. If anyone here has seen the old 'Shopsmith' it was a multipurpose machine that was used mostly for wood. It was an 'all in one' machine capable of many different tasks, and my inspiration. Am I reaching too far? Hopefully not... but if this idea can be made a reality, then many other people who thrive on self sufficiency would be capable of building and inventing things that would benefit all of us... be it refining ideas for energy, or maybe shelter, or other basic needs. Necessity is the basis of invention, right? Anyways, I'm happy to be here, and I hope to one day offer my knowledge to help someone else. So... where do I start? Finding sources and making friends!!
HI, all. I'm new to this forum...I've built my own cnc router, I worked in a machine shop so was able to use the cnc at work for my project...made my own drawing and parts. For the same reason as the others here, didn't have the money to buy ready-made kit and wanted the challenge of buildings from scratch. Now everything's ready to go but have problem with my drivers. They're dm860 and my step motor are 860oz.in nema34. They skip steps with feed not higher than 50 ipm. This is why I've registered here to get help..:drowning:
Hi all, first post on this forum.
My background is Mechanical Engineering and I'm a part designer. This DIY CNC hobby is just blooming for me... it started when I realized I'd have a number a 1000mm ball screws laying around, along with steppers, etc...

New here been doing a lot of google searching on what CNC mill to buy, and kept coming back to this site with plenty of info.
I would consider my self a hobby machinist. Although i have only made a few parts on a manual lathe, i now need a milling machine to complete my project.
Only just joined up
A little info about me My names Dean and live in the UK, i work has a CNC miller and my hobby is RC most things. Only just got into the hobby of machining my own parts on a manual hobby lathe so thought this be a good site to join. Now looking for a CNC milling machine to finish off some projects, still need to do a lot of research on this matter though.
