My Uncle who lives in BC Canada had to wait 3-1/2 years to get reconstructive knee surgery! Then they litterally threw him out in a few days to make room for some other poor sole (opps is sole a bad word). It costs $20+ to have a lunch at McDonnalds up there,
I wasn't going to get involved in this discussion because I don't really care about US politics, but since you mentioned Canada...

There is a problem with wait times for surgery in Canada, I won't deny that. In fact there was a big meeting last week between all the Premiers and the Prime Minister to discuss this, and other medical related issues. As for spending $20 at McDonalds, yes, for a family of 3. Is that so bad? I just went to Chicago for the IMTS show, and spent $3.25 US for a glass of orange juice, and $2.50 US for a coffee!!

I guess my point is that I would still rather live here, even though it's not perfect, and not have to worry about some crack-head popping a cap in my a** so he can steal my running shoes. (I live close enough to Detroit to hear the horror stories of life in the big US city)

Now please continue the debate, and leave us Canadians out of it!

Dan, I live a lot closer to Detroit than you do. I've never seen anyone get shot, never been a victim of any crime. My wife is Canadian, from British Columbia. I hear downtown Vancouver has some rough places, too. When she moved here, she couldn't believe that people here could leave their lawn furniture out at night without it getting stolen. No place is perfect. The Detroit area is a far better place than the media would have you believe. I've lived here my whole life (40 years) and wouldn't really want to live anywhere else.

Two weeks ago I was on Prince Edward Island. I filled up the car on the island, and drove 2-1/2 hours to Halifax. Got up in the morning, drove 20 minutes to the airport, and filled up the tank before dropping off the rental car. $35 more for my 3 hours of driving!!

    My Apologies

I owe an apology to this forum and to its members.
When I started "OH GOOD GRIEF" it was meant more as a humorous response to what I felt was a ridicules waste of involved peoples time, not a slam on teachers, countries, states or school districts. It has unfortunately digressed to be a platform for impassioned and unfriendly replies upon Democracy, States, country and individuals, and yet it seems a bit ironic to me that it is these same impassioned beliefs of individuals that have made great countries even greater.

My apologies, it will not happen again.

Ken, no matter what you or anyone says, on the internet someone will always argue about it. Don't let that keep you from speaking your mind. I just wanted to point out to Dan that I don't have to always be looking over my shoulder, because I live in Detroit. I have no problem with him or anyone speaking there mind, just make sure you know what you're talking about when you do it.
