Kotyara -- i have not stress relieved, and yes now that you've brought it up I am worried.
I haven't tried thicker steel.. my spindle is just way too fast. A homemade spindle is on my to-do list.
I'm also very curious to get into steel.

bhurts -- there are a ton of rubber band gun plans online.. I picked one i like and just sort of converted
it for aluminum / springs instead of wood/rubberbands

Adamj12b -- bellows are from McMaster, but they're more expensive that I expected. Luckily my gantry
is 5.5" high, so I was able to cut a standard 12" width into two pieces to double the length. I don't see why
good quality (but inexpensive) fabric blinds couldn't do the same job.. maybe some waterproofing spray.. but
if they wear out.. you can probably cut quite a few more from what was left over.
