Very cool! I wound up just going with the new spindle for a 4" chuck. I was not certain I could get the headstock machined properly. I ordered up some ABEC-5 7206B 2RS AC Bearings from china.. Not sure they will actually be that Precision, but they were only $16 each and I'm having them shipped with my 8mm and 12mm ground ballscrew and bearing support blocks.
I think I want to machine a new carriage to extend the X travel and reverse it so I can set it up like a little slant bed Lathe with a 6 position tool turret like the emco uses.
I am just about done drawing everything up in solidworks. And saw I can buy cast iron blanks from speedy metals online.
I am going to add a linear rail on the backside along the length of the bed as a cantilever support for the extended carriage to support the turret. I have a feeling this little lathes is going to become a freak like your X2..lol. I may order a 16" travel bed from LMS and if I do that I may use the existing bed tied to the back to better stabilize a longer z carriage.
I'll post up models when I sort all the ideas out..

Hoss,
do you recall the part numbers for the bearings and lock nuts?
Thanks
