So are you still using the filament drive of Wades/Steves/Gregs (or whoever the latest derivative is named after, soon to be Hoss' Extruder) and just moved it to a remote location away from the hotend? I was picturing a gatlin gun like barrel with multiple colored strands all forming the junction right in the melting chamber for almost instant color changes. I want the glow in the dark stuff. When are you going to implement the soluble support technology, corn starch filament?

Sorry, thought I was clear that I was doing the dual extruder from thingiverse, linked
    a couple times to it.
Using PVA was the main reason for going duals, we talked about it early in the thread.

Not your fault. I am not near as organized and am not following all of the derivatives as I am in an information overload. It was time to do something to form a reference point.

I had a good week of printing then all of a sudden my prints started turning out pretty bad. Plastic quits feeding and I have to help it by hand. The hobbed bolt was loaded up with material so I cleaned it and it worked perfect for about 15 minutes and same thing again.

When I made my bolt I put a 0.062" radius groove in the bolt then hobbed the heck out of it with a 3mm tap. There seems to be plenty of teeth in the groove but I can see where only the bottom of the groove is biting the filament. The width is slightly wider than the filament. At least I hope that is the problem.

What size tap did you use Hoss? I'm thinking about using a 6-32 this go around.

If you go that route, by all means get the one with the Greg's open extruder. Not the Wade's. I have been able to make the Wade's work fine after a lot of fussing with it, but save yourself the hassle. In fact, where Hoss and I got our's, I don't think he even sells the kits with Wade's any longer. Now shipping with the Greg's.

I ordered a Greg's as well. My Wades always quits about 50 to 70% of the way thru while trying to print the Greg's Extruder. Bummer. I just rehobbed another bolt and about to try again.

And some guys never have any trouble with the Wade's.

I haven't heard of anyone that has had trouble with the Greg's.
I just got mine yesterday and will be installing it very soon.

It worked so great that I bragged about it. Really it has more to do with my hobbed bolt. What I don't like about it is having to totally dismantle everything to clean it. The Gregg's ought to fix that.

I did make mine a little more user friendly. Just added some 6-32's 2" long from the other direction. No more having to take off the motor to get to the hob. I also roughed the bearing surface so it has to turn to feed. Not that it wasn't before, but now I am sure it turns.

Had to get one of the extruders going since I need to print a couple switch and plug brackets.
First test print went ok but the extruder needs recalibrated since it's a little harder to push
the filament but it might be the new nozzle.

I used an M3x.6 tap, same that most recommend on reprap.org.

Thanks Hoss, I made a new one earlier and so far it's working great again.
I cut a groove 0.055" deep into the bolt with a 0.050" radius, then hobbed with a 6-32 tap and it's gripping much better.

The old bolt worked great with PLA but not ABS.

    Axis parallelism

    Hi Hoss,

Have you experienced any issues with axis parallelism? I am working on the printerbot kit from the link you posted a few pages back. It looks like the x axis rods are just a slip fit into the plastic blocks and the belt tension serves to keep things in compression. The problem that I am seeing is when I measure outside to outside accross the X rods I get 3 different measurements.

    Right side against block 1.297

    Center next to carriage 1.287

    Left side against block 1.303

The carriage slides well until it gets within 1" of the left side and then jams.

Did you have these issues on your current printer? I am thinking of taking a little off the rod and putting some epoxy in the hole. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Sean

I just ground out the bottom of the carriage block so the bearing can now be aligened and then clamped. It seems to be much better.
