The finishing method used for the above 2 desk names results in a very attractive surface, although it reflects light & will not photograph well at all.
A fine disk is used to polish, followed by adding swirl marks with the edge of a 4" coarse grinding disk.
This is followed by clear or translucent coloured lacquer which enhances the swirl effect.

Hi Tom,
Yes, the transfer bearings on the underside of the torch plate do actually ride on the work surface.
This works quite well & in posts #184 & 281 there is additional information you might find helpful.
Pictures in posts #48, 112, 285, & 363 also show the torch plate & bearings.
The springs on the plate mounting bolts compensate for work surface irregularities.
