i think traxxas rod ends get used mostly for things not in a traxxas car. :x
people use them for video camera stabilisers too.

I have used more traxxas parts in random projects then on an rc car. I only own 1 of their vehicles right now and its a boat yet I still have a shoebox full of traxxas stuff like that...

Hey Hoss curious here.....sounds like you may have had a bit of trouble uploading pics like me too ....have you resorted to uploading photos to your cnczone gallery and then linking them to your post?.......I couldn't even upload to the zone's gallery so I set up a free android photo bucket account and in my last post I had to link my latest updates to photo bucket. .

Yeah I used the gallery yesterday but today they seem to have uploading fixed, uploaded a pic from my hard drive like normal.
    I don't use a phone, a desktop pc.

Analias - Hoss, I was watching your video on the grinder attachment for the X2 on your web site. I had a couple of questions.

    1) How did the grinder ultimately work out? Did you have any problems with the X2's rigidity when grinding?

    2) What music is playing in the back ground? I would like to find the band and purchase the music.
Apparently your post was lost in never never land so I copied it from the email notice.

The grinder worked ok after I dressed the wheel and mounted the wheel on the spindle instead.
It still left stripes from each pass, couldn't feel them so it was just visual.
The X2 didn't have enough rigidity or resolution to get very accurate on the amount removed, maybe in the .001+ ballpark but for making the part fairly flat it was ok.

The music question was asked in the comments too, it's Tender Surrender by Prince.

Kind off topic, but I don't think I ever heard Prince do that one. Steve Vai did "Tender Surrender", would love to hear Prince's version...

    Thanks, Hoss,

This is it, recorded from one of his live concerts as I recall.

No problem, I remember seeing him perform the song on a concert video but can't remember which one.

That would explain why I never received a email notice for the reply. Thanks Hoss.

Would you expect any better performance from the grinder if it was designed to be used with an X3? Are there plans available for that project?

I just noticed that grinder is not running off of the X2's spindle. It looks like a small commercial unit modified to mount on the side of the X2. Where did you sure source the grinder from?

Howdy Hoss... one more question to the local guru'...

I just pulled my spindle apart to upgrade the bearings in preparation of a belt drive upgrade, I decided to use the deep groove bearings you suggested and had purchased them a while back, long story short just wanted to make sure that no one had reported any bad results that you know of with these.. I tried to look up and haven't seen any info either way. they seem like they are gonna be more than just a finger tight fit, like the bearings might be a couple of hundreds smaller than the spindle from what I could measure ( I only have cheap HF digital vernier caliper)

    Any thoughts?

    anyways, thanks in advance.

The video with the music is the angle grinder attachment but the other grinding videos are with the grinding wheel attached to the X2 spindle.
That works well if you have a tilting head.
The angle grinder was from Harbor Freight, a typical 4 1/2 inch model.
You wouldn't believe how many emails I've received over the years asking how much I sell my surface grinder for.
I think a 4 inch wheel would work better on this but 6 was all I could get back then.

You'd be the first to try deepgrooves that I know of.
Probably your calipers which aren't very accurate for measuring ID's anyway.
Mikes and telescoping gages are what you need.
The bearings should be very close to spec, if the old tapered's came off ok the new ones should fit pretty well, may need some light sanding to get a good slip fit.
The X2's and X3's use deepgrooves and they hold up well in most cases.
You can apply a little preload to them too so there's no spindle slop.

    Thanks, Hoss

Since I am lucky enough to have a machinist at my disposal, He has offered to do the bearing change out for me since this is probably one of the more critical mods and I dont want to FUBAR it.

I will report on their performance once I do the belt drive upgrade which will have to wait a few weeks as the machine is apart at the moment and I have no way to make the parts till I put it back together with the rest of the enclosure, hopefully my ball screws show up this week.

    Thanks again.

I would like to use shims and tighten the shaft tight on my G704 ball screw bearings. I use 7001b AC bearings.

How do I select the shims?

Well it took all of 5 minutes and the right tools at the huge arbor press and the spindle is now re-bearinged with the deep grooved bearings you suggest on your site, they do feel really smooth.

Once I get the machine back together Ill try to report if any anomalies, and hopefully shortly after after the belt drive mod.
