My motor fried, and its gonna be middle of December they said before I get a motor, so Ive got another one Im putting on, and I was debating using the same speed controller, but when it is hooked up, it puts out about 56 volts no matter were the knob is at, and the motor spins like crazy. Im thinking something might be wrong with the speed control, but it was working fine even after the motor was half fried, until I was using it a little longer and then popped the little fuse in the back. Its possible that something else fried along with the fuse.

    Any ideas?

Paul, not to ruin this thread with more crap, but... I think alot of people have posted about grizzly's poor customer service based on the fact these mills are backordered and they cant get their order like yesterday (the new ebay driven mentality). I doubt many of these people actually have grizzly machinery or have actually have had to use grizzly customer service. I have several large woodworking and metalworking machines from them, and in fact I have been extremely pleased with grizzly and their customer service.

I'm crying BS, because several posts have equated grizzly with a fly-by-night shlock outfit and nothing could be further from the truth!

Like I said before, I'd sell mine for a premium and re-order and wait 6 months as thats my timetable (financially) right now.

I have a fair amount of Grizzly equipment.

I would say they are a mixed bag in terms of getting some things, but their service is very good. Very responsive and helpful. The quality of the equipment has steadily risen over the years.

But not having stock status on the site bugs me sometimes. I think this is what gets to people. Ordering something with unknown delivery date. That can be a problem. I only have so much time to put into my projects, for example.

I decided for forego waiting on a G704 and bought the Lathemaster a little over a week ago. Cost a bit more, but I had no problem getting it and it seems a fine machine to me. It's the "25" version made by Weiss. I think the same factory as Grizzly. For me it was worth the extra $ to get it sooner.

I also considered getting the TopTech from MTW in Canada, but nobody seems to know if those are actually higher quality or what.

Unfortunately, Lathemaster is out of stock on the LMT25L also. I checked all of the US sources on Hoss' site early last week and no one had one in stock or could give a date less than 60 days out.

    cheers,

Hi folks. I just joined this community, having just ordered a Grizzly G0704. I thought some of you might want to hear what I was told regarding delivery dates.

When I called yesterday before ordering, they told me they expected a shipment in mid January. After ordering, I got an email confirming the order, and it said:

"We are currently out of stock of the G0704 Mill/Drill and expect to receive a shipment on approximately February 21, 2011. Once received, we will ship your complete order to be delivered in 3-5 business days."

Well, at least my order is in so I am in line for a shipment, whenever they come in. I'm going to assume I won't have it until May or June, and that way perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I want to thank everyone for their posts in this and other threads on CNCZone, about the G0704. All the information was very helpful in making the buy decision, and the information here was far better and more complete than I could find anywhere else. Thanks especially to Hoss for all the info here and on his site.

In the meantime, I'll be finding tooling. Besides the usual (R8 collets, clamping kit, and I already have paralells, 123 blocks, boring head and an ER32 collet set and chuck), I'm thinking a 4" vise, without a swivel (perhaps Glacern or Phase II) and a Rotary Table. Any thoughts on size of the RoTab for this machine? 4 inch or 6 inch?

By way of background, this is my first milling machine, and it will be a relief not to have to try to mill on a lathe. I'm fairly new to machining. I'll initially be using it as a manual machine, hope to eventually migrate to CNC as I work my way up the learning curve. My interest is in model engineering and model IC engines.

    My Mill Arrived!

Hello All.... I haven't posted in a while, as I've been waiting on my mill to arrive. Thanks to Hoss and all that gave me some insight earlier on in this thread. I purchased the BF20L V from Pat at Machine Tools Warehouse. I picked it up today from the shipper, and just finished uncrating it. It came with a stand and tool kit... It weighs a ton... took three men to get it off the van and into my workshop... bit of a nightmare but it's inside the shop now...lol...

I'm going to start reading the manual now... I haven't plugged it it yet... as I'm not sure if there's a procedure to follow... i thought I read ( or saw on You tube ) something about a 'Break In Process" etc... so to be honest, I'm afraid to do anything with it, untll I get more information... especially the "Do's & Don'ts" for a new mill like this.. So.. any and all advise is greatly appreciated.... i don't want to be one of those poor guys posting about how.. I didn't know I wasn't suppose to do this or that... before turning it on...lol.... after all.. it's not like I can put it in the car and bring it back to Sears..

So it's all brand new to me... let the teaching begin... I will post some pics when I get the mill placed in the shop on the stand etc. Now all I need... is ADVICE.. and INFORMATION.. from the fine crowd here on the Zone... and I'll get my new hobby started!... Thanks in advance

Reading the manual is a very good idea, too many people just dive into things without a clue.
You'll need to do the spindle break-in, should be in the manual.
You should start your own thread now so it doesn't get lost in here.
    Congrats!

    RE Spindle breakin?

Hi all ... before I start my thread, can you direct me to instructions to do the spindle break in on the BF20L VARIO... I just read through then documentation and there is no mention of it, is there some place on line that tells me the correct procedure for this?

    Thanks

    Paul

The procedure is in the grizzly manual.

For those who received their 704 within the last 6 months, is the drawbar still a problem? I believe some people mentioned they had to make their own because the ones shipped are too small.

Angry G0704 on Backorder until April 29th 2011

I was told last month that my new G0704 would not be shipped until February 14th, 2011 .... Just today they updated the Backorder to shipped on APRIL 29th 2011. Talk about dissappointing.!!!! Just Saying...that someone at Grizzly should be paying attention!!!

Everyone's going through it... demand on this machine is very high. They pushed my date back three times, but eventually it came. Just be patient, it'll be worth it!

It reminds me of an old Farside cartoon. There were 2 vultures sitting in a tree watching a dying cow. One said to the other "patients my ass, I'm gonna kill something."

I'm still being patient though. At least it is giving the 3' of snow and ice in my yard and driveway a chance to clear so I can get the mill in to my basement workshop.

    cheers,

    I gave up : )

I Started down the Grizzly Road in about June... kept gettin pushed ahead,,, I gave up in about October, and Ordered from Machine Tools Warehouse... Glad I did my machine got here in January, and is now sitting mounted and all shiny in my workshop... waiting for me to learn how to use it!...lol.. I'm glad I went with MTH I Got A Vario BF20L it has a slightly bigger motor than the G0704 And Pat at MTH was a very straight up guy to deal with. kept me well informed etc.... So it seems I'd still be waiting for the Grizzly Machine... having said that I just got Grizzlys new big Catalogue.. and there are several things at great prices that I will be ordering from them the spring. I discovered that no matter where you order this type machine... if they don't have it in stock, there will be a wait.. demand is high... i just lucked in at the right time I think.

    Cheers

    Discontinued?

So I have been watching this thread for a while now with great interest as I am shopping for a mid size bench mill and could not decide between the X3 and the Grizzly g0704 types. But lately, going on the Grizzly site I noticed that they are longer picturing the g0704 mills and when I google them and go to the Grizzly site, it says that they have discontinued that product. Anyone heard anything from Grizzly about this. I would have really liked to have gotten one of these since the travel is so much more that the X3 and the price is right. Precision Matthews stills sells them I guess, but it's about $300 more.
