I think that was taken from the hydraulic lever drawbar a guy made for his tormach a good while back.

    He has instructions for sale.

I think he may have a deal with novakon but don't know for sure.

Nope. The Novakon Pulsar LDB (Lever DrawBar) is purely mechanical, and is designed and manufactured by Novakon.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

ok, guess scott didn't make a deal.
    Hoss

ahh, this was the novakon I was thinking of, he made a hydraulic pdb similar to what scott designed.

I'd be curious to see inside the pulsars pdb box.

Oh yeah, this looks better with the 2.5 bore Fabco cylinder.
Bonus, don't have to make a clevis, one from mcmaster.com works great.

    Hi Hoss,

The new setup with 2½" cylinder is certainly looking better.

How much force on the drawbar you're looking for?

I think the lever now has an excentric cam, are you going to replace that with a bearing to reduce friction?

Anyway: nice work and thanks for sharing the information with all of us!

I was wanting to use a bearing for the cam but the lever pivot location would interfere with mounting a bearing.
    Grease will do.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

I'm new to this forum and thread so I apologize if I'm not following proper protocol.

I’m planning to do the Hoss CNC conversion on my G0759 Mill when I receive it in October (backordered). I want to use the A – T “New Ballscrew Kit G0704101015 for Hoss G0704/ BF20 CNC Conversion”. I’ve purchased the Hoss CNC conversion DVDs but I can’t find any CAD drawings for the A – T style ball nut mounts, perhaps I’m not looking in the right place.

Anyway, does anyone have CAD drawings for the A – T style ball nut mounts for the X, Y and Z axis of the G0759 or G0704 Mill they would like to share?

    Thx - Joe

    Hey Joe,
Yes there are drawings on there for the C7 ballscrews, email me at [email protected] and I'll point you in the right direction.

    Hi Hoss,

Thanks for the quick response. I just searched again for the C7 ballscrew nut drawings and found them in the phase 3 directory. For some reason I hadn't moved that directory into my Conversion node and had not even looked at the files. I also see there are drawings for several other parts I've seen in your video's but hadn't found in the conversion download, mystery solved!

    Thanks,
    Joe

They are in the Phase 2 folder as well.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Yep, just found them in the Phase 2 folder, "C7 Ebay Ballscrews and Nuts" folder. I had only been looking in the "CAD" folder, it's taking me a while getting used to your folders organization, lots of files in your conversion download, a really great resource for CNC conversion.

Quick question: I notice you recommend dual shaft NEMA 23, 570 oz. steppers for the X & Y axis, any problems attaching a manual wheel to the end shaft for manual operation if needed? I would remove the wheels for CNC operation but would be nice to be able to use the mill manually for a quick trim or boring job without having to fire up the CNC controller and computer. The Z axis NEMA 34 960 oz. motor you recommend is single shaft so that would be a problem for manual control. Would there be any problems using the dual shaft version of this motor (KL34H295-43-8B) so a manual wheel could also be attached to the rear shaft if desired? I know you have commented to others that once converted to CNC users will probably never have a need or want to use the mill manually but for newbies like myself, being able to use the mill manually is sort of a security blanket .

    Thanks,
    Joe

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Yes the "manual" question comes up a lot, read #9 here.
    FAQs
If you must add handwheels be aware that spinning the steppers by hand will generate a voltage so you might want to isolate them from the drivers in "manual" mode.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Hoss, I just wanted to say thank you!

I have just about everything hooked up on my mill, cable wise, and was trying to jog it around and the Z-Axis would not move. I was messing with it for a couple of hours trying to figure out what was wrong. I had reached the point I was going to cut open my cable to see if I had soldered everything right, but stopped and thought maybe I should go check your website first and see if you had anything on it...sure enough all I had to do was set my dip switches on the drive and everything worked.

Thanks again, that would have taken me forever to figure out on my own

    Much love man!

Hoss, I was looking at the fittings you used for oil distribution on your mill and from the ebay website it looks like they are air push-to-connect fittings? If they are air fittings have you ever had any issues with them?

  18. #5798

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Yes they are but have worked with no problems with oil, they aren't full plastic, the male side is metal.
The tubing I used is speced for oil usage.

Hoss that is good to know; it would save me a lot of money The stainless steel fittings are expensive as hell.

Hi Hoss, Love your plans! I had a question about the solenoid valve you used for the PDB. are you using a 5 port and actively pushing and pulling the piston or a 3 port valve and letting the belvilles return the piston to the resting position?
