And I am sure everyone here religiously blows their PC fans out at least once a year!

Yep and you can do it to a mill console too just as easy if you have pets in your shop.

That negative pressure is only between the filter and the fan blades.

And for those who say the fan motor is heating up the electronics ...

Put a squirrel cage motor/fan on it with a filtered inlet.

Meanwhile I will go with my computer fan that uses 3 watts.

My AC bearings for X Axis are sounding crunchy and was wondering if anyone had the size off hand? Need to order some replacements and can't remember the outer diameter, I know I got them from vxb, but they are listing a 19, 22, 26mm option for the 10mm shaft size needed.. Any one remember off hand? Been 6 years.. memory is failing me at the moment..lol

    Hoss,

Thanks!!! I was wondering if maybe these would be a worthwhile try? They are 10x26x12 sealed double row AC bearing.

I have plenty of room for them it looks like on the shaft. Any thoughts? Always wanted some form of seal to keep grease in and chips out, pretty sure that's what did this set in.. I had to cut some cast iron the other day and I tried to vacuum and clean it all up but I think some iron dust probably got in there.. thoughts?

    Thanks Hoss!

Thanks Hoss, as I thought, the AC bearing mist have gotten some trash in it (was machining cast iron the other day) and destroyed some balls..

    Replace events on the way!!

    Thanks again!

I got my VXB AC bearins recently, new out of the bag they feel very gritty. Also they don't look like the same ones from Hoss Dvd plans. I think they changed the inner race material to this red nylon fiber/phenolic material.

Hoss is there a better quality upgrade for these bearings? If so, would they be crazy expensive?

    Thanks,

    Lou

Picture shows a metal ball cage, but mine have the red fiber.. Was hoping the ones arriving tomorrow have the metal but I'm sure they will be the same as what I had already. I would imagine a stepper angle would be better for axial loading.. maybe going up to a 30mm outer diameter would offer some more options?

Any suggestions for a caulk for the chip pan? Something that is resistant to coolant?

What material is the chip pan?

I didn't use any, mine was wood so I used a lot of wood glue on the joints.
IIRC you're using a plastic so look for a glue that is compatible.
Plus I laid on the boat paint extra heavy at the seams.

    Hoss,

I just finished making the Y axis mount from your Phase 2 plans. The center 1.00" hole is .125" off center. Is this by design?

However Your phase 1 plans for this Y axis stepper mount seem to have the .25" diameter holes center-line with the 1.00" hole. I am confused.

    I will attach a pic.

    Thanks,

    Lou

    Re: Hoss's G0704

It's by design to allow more ballnut clearance.

    Thanks for replying Hoss,

I still don't understand what the .125" offset from center-line does.

Here is why i am asking... When the Jam nuts are put on, they ever so slightly rub on the inside of the Off center hole. Should I just make this hole bigger? Or would I be better off remaking the piece so that everything is concentric with the axis of the bearing and ball screw? Or should i just make the hole square instead?

Thanks, I really appreciate your help.

The phase 2 y xis spacer holes are supposed to be offset .125 also. The y spacer bearing bores are also larger than phase 1.
The y stepper mount needs to be concentric with the spacer bearing bores.
Are you reusing phase 1 parts?
The offset puts the ballscrew lower so the ballnut doesn't rub the underneath of the saddle.

I think I see where the problem is, The Phase 2 front mount y axis extension spacer 2.5" long piece puts the bearing axis centerline of the .25" mounting thru holes. I think they should be offset .125" in the drawing.Right? In your phase 2 front mount y axis spacer 1.5" you did this. you offset it .562" from the top surface, which would be the .126" i need to be centerline.

I can send you the 2 drawing privately, just in case I am not explaining my problem correctly..

    Thanks Lou

    Hello Everyone

I had an issue reinstalling the ballnuts and lost some balls. Balls arrived (.1008-.1009 for Z, .1001-.1002 for X and Y) I repacked the Z axis leaving about half a ball of space and the nut feels quite notchy. Should I remove a ball from the nut and run them that way? with a ball removed, they feel fine. these are from CHAI, double nut. The only other possible reason would be that a ball is stuck between loops in one of the channels. I will repack them again tonight to see. Any ideas?

Oh Boy. I hope that's not the case. I made a 2.5" spacer.. I've not installed everything yet.. But, mine is mounting holes are centerline with the bearing pocket and I was planning on reusing the Phase 1 stepper mount. I saw the phase 3 plans and the do call for the spacer block to be offset by .125" I wonder what I can do besides remake the 2.5" spacer.

So, I just went out and checked my Y screw and mount in my saddle. With the Y ballnut mount FLUSH with the saddle, the ballnut has around .25" or so clearance (eyeballed.. didn't measure). Granted this ISN'T mounted in the machine yet. In fact, without enlarging the slot in which the ballnut mount goes in, I don't see how the ballnut could even get close to the saddle? Hoss, was that .125" offset for a different ballnut vs the lm2008 C7 ballscrews most are using ?

Reusing the phase1 stepper mount will do just fine, the offset was originally for roton nuts but C7's are preferred.
