May be somebody is interested in it: there is a laser marking/cutting/welding software available at BeamConstruct - Open Laser Marking Software / Laser Scanner / Laser Engraving Solutions that is totally free (that's why I hope this posting is not misunderstood as spam).

This software supports all common scanner controller cards, comes with all necessary features (including WYSIWYG CAD, 3D, marking on-the-fly, rapid prototyping and others), is able to access additional motion drives and provides support for a new, ultra-low cost scanner card (named Ether Dream).

Beside of that projects created with this software can be used within an own HMI environment that comes with the same software package. Thus it is not necessary to provide the CAD application on the machine where operators only want to control production and are not involved in creating the designs itself.
