Unhappy Hurco MD1 Ultimax 2 control lockup

Hi i recently acquired an MD1 Hurco

we installed it and got it running yesterday and was running some small test programs and changing tools all fine

it would appear that the machine has developed a fault when i switched it back on today the system boots to the main page
but wont respond to any control inputs is this a common fault with the control ?

would like advice as in either repairing the existing control or obtaining a wiring diagram for the machine to retrofit a new control in its place (EMC2)

    Thanks

Replace U14 & U15 on the CPU (MC1488 & MC1489), replace the MC1488 & MC1489 on the CRT controller and also the P8255A on the CRT controller.

The CPU is in the rear cabinet, the CRT controller is in the console.

Not tried it but it should be ok.
You could also use an Intel P82C55A2 or an NEC D71055C-10

When you say it boots to the main screen. Is this the configuration screen (where it shows the machine travel limits) or will it exit to the main input screen?
If it is on the config screen, are the displayed values in Metric or English?

If in Metric then press the bottom softkey, press enter button, press 999, then press enter button again. then select exit (Bottom softkey).
Control should reboot and display english values for travels.

turn the main power off then back on. When the config screen comes up, hit ENTER 999 Enter and see if that works

If in inches- hit the bottom softkey between the monitors, in some versions of the software, the exit is not visibly listed

This means the control is functioning, however it is not receiving the softkey.
Try pressing digit 8 then press enter. Later versions of the software would read digits 1 thru 8 for the softkey presses but not all.
If this does not help, make sure the cables inside the console are all plugged in.
also look for metal shavings on the small boards in the console area.

good call on the metal shavings. I don't know how many times that cured the problem

pull both dual axis boards and boot it up again. Sometimes a bad board will freeze it up

Have you taken out the cpu board and cleaned it yet? My Km3p gets dirty and needs periodic cleaning even with air filter changes. I also look for chips down at the bottom of the card rack.
