    Cutting fiberglass

I am trying to cut a piece of fiberglass that is 1/8 thick, I have a universal laser cutter that has a 40 watt tube in it. I am getting a melting affect and a poor edge with 80 percent power and 2 in a minute with 150 PPI . Anny suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks

increase cutting speed and lower power setting

We useed to cut plastic by 40W CO2 glass laser and had same issue, then we switch to 60W and decrease the power setting a little bit and increase the cutting speed little bit, its working, edge looks neat. wish it helps

    Hi,
Just doing a follow up to see what success you had in cutting the fiberglass.
Did it all turn out the way you hoped?
    Rich.
I am not completely useless.......I can always serve as a BAD example.

    Cutting fiberglass

I have cut Acrylic, ABS , Rubbers , and a few other plastics, But I have not figured out how to cut fiberglass with much success. I have tried to lower power and do multiple passes to limit the burnt edge, but it still isn't pretty like acrylic.

Let me know if you figure out a good way to cut it.

Do you have machines that can mill it?
Most PCB shops use a hog-out type end mill to cut PCB material (fiberglass) and the edges look very nice (sorry if the description is not very clear, let me know if sources are needed).
