I have configured my G540 for charge pump mode (eg: will not come out of fault without a pulse train) however when I start the computer occasionally the G540 will have "OK" status from BIOS screen through to starting Mach 3, other times it works correctly.

Parallel port is in EPP mode
Parallel connection is made by 25 way ribbon cable with IDC ends
Cable path does not run anywhere near mains voltage cables (isn't the circuit looking for kHz pulses rather than 60 Hz )

Any ideas why this is happening?

No but as a matter of proper sequence, at least according to me, you should always boot the computer first and then turn on the machine. I know the charge pump is supposed to protect you from the pport doing strange things, but why do it the other way?
