Has anyone disassembled a Tormach into subassy to make a difficult move in?

I'm strongly considering buying a Tormach PCNC. Unfortunately I've got a difficult location on the 2nd floor accessible only through a narrow stairway that leads to a hallway which is narrowed to an annoying 32" width.

Has anyone brought in their Tormach by disassembling it into major sub assemblies? I'm guessing that the cross slide table assembly is going to be the heaviest. Could anyone guestimate how heavy the table ass'y is? Could 4 strong people lug it up a flight of stairs?

This has been discussed a number of times. Search this group plus here:

Also the Tormach web site has info on moving in confined spaces.

Best disassembly write-up I have seen

The best write up of a tormach disassembly and move (including some weight information for the parts) is at: http://memweb.newsguy.com/~mphenry/tormach_cnc_mill.htm

Lots of information and lots of pictures.

Take a look at Mikes web site below. He has documented moving a Tormach into his Basement. Gives you a good idea of what is involved with a move like this. The chunks are large and very heavy so be careful and take your time. Here's Mikes Web Site:

I would strongly recommend verifying all Inspection Items from your Certificate of Inspection Sheet before disassembly and after re-assembling your Mill. That way you will be sure that your Mill is back into correct alignment as it was before moving it into your Basement. Here is an example of a Certificate of Inspection Sheet:

Mike is a very knowledgable fellow and willing to help. Give him a shout if you have any questions on his move.

    Regards

    MadMax,

Ask here or on the Yahoo group if you have any questions. Email is OK too.
