Building my first home DIY cnc as a proof-of-concept project. Will be a 12" x12" table with 8" Z. Initial design idea was to use router (Dewalt611 or Bosch Colt) as a 1 hp spindle. Now considering replacing the router witha 0.8kw VFD spindle.

Question: IF using an 0.8kw VFD (with 110v in) providing 220v 3phase out to a 2.2kw (or larger) spindle, would the 2.2kw (or larger) rated spindle perform (speed & torque) as though it was a 0.8kw spindle ?

Reasoning: Would like to ultimately have a 3 to 5 hp VFD and matched spindlebut retain the ability to use a 110v VFD for small jobs in locations that donot have 220 service, without changing the physical spindle. Would have both a1hp and a 5hp vfd with either driving a 5hp spindle.

Also have not been able to determine differences, benefits, pros & cons about "round" vs "rectangular boxy" spindles.

Also air vs water cooled ?

Thanks for any and all comments about my adventure -
