    Question Mitsui Seiki VS3A

    Hi,

Can some one tell me step by step how to back up parameters of Mitsui Seiki VS3A with Fanuc 0m ?

    Manufacturer: MITSUI SEKI
    Type: VS3A
    Year: 1987
    Serial Number: 141

    *CNC machining center - control ATC - loader 20 tools - generator DAIKIN AKS104K - strokes: X = 710 mm, Y = 450 mm, Z = 450 mm, Table: 1100x500 mm, 8000 rpm, Spindle: 11 Kw

What cables do i need and what software do i need to backup the parameters within Fanuc? Is there a manual for this?

Does anybody have Parameters for this machine?

Thanks a lot in advance for helping me with this.

Ps. My email is joopvdstap (at) gmail (dot)com

The cable configuration and parameter settings are as follows:

    Machine End ----------------------------- PC End

    DB25 Male -----------------DB25 Female ------------ DB9 Female
1 ----- Cable Shield ----- Not Connected ---------- Not Connected
    2 ------------------------------- 3 ---------------------------- 2
    3 ------------------------------- 2 ---------------------------- 3
    4
    | Bridged
    5
    7 ------------------------------- 7 ---------------------------- 5
    6
    |
    8
    |
    20

    Parameter Settings
    #0002
    Bit 0 = 1
    Bit 2 = 0
    Bit 7 = 1

    #552 = 10 (4800 Baud Starting Point)

    Machine Control Set Page Settings
    I/O = 0
    ISO Format

    PC Software settings
    Handshake Method = Xon Xoff
Baud Rate = 4800, or whatever the machine control parameter is set to
    Data Bits = 7
    Stop Bits = 2
    Parity Bit = Even

To back up the parameters, proceed as follows:
    1. Set the PC software ready to Receive
    2. Set the machine control to EDIT Mode
    3. Press the PARAM key
    4. Press the START button.
    5. The Parameters will start to be output with "OUTPUT" being displayed.
    6. To output the Option Parameters as well, follow the above steps, but in addition, press and hold the EOB key when START is pressed.

    Bill

I have my own Editor/Comms package, but its not free. I note from other Posts that NCLink Free is one used by many with good results.

I have a laptop with no rs232 i/o. Does CNC backup of the mitsui seiki VS3A work with rs232 to usb adapter? And what would be the best program to use? Procomm or NCLink. Got both of them working now.

A USB to RS232 adapter will be OK. You may have problems using an adapter if using Win7 installed as a 64 bit OS. You won't have any trouble using an adapter with Win XP. I don't know Procomm, but I believe NCLink works OK.

    Hi,

Still have a little question here. Ive got a DB25 Male-male cable and a DB9 female -female cable. This DB9 cable is a null modem cable. What is the exact wiring scheme so i know how to cut and connect the cables to eachother.

I explained the cable configuration in Post #2, refer back to that. If you bought the "Null Modem" cable off the shelf, it may or may not be correctly configured for Xon Xoff handshaking.

Null Modem is a generic name, as there is more than one cable configuration that can be referred to as Null Modem. The name refers to its origin as a cable that bypasses the Computer to Modem (DTE to DCE) and directly connects two Computers (DTE to DTE). Accordingly, you need to ensure that the cable pin out between PC and Machine is as shown in Post #2. If the cable is an off the shelf item, you can use a multi-metre to test for continuity between the pins from end to end to confirm correct configuration before connecting it.

    Regards,

    Bill
