has anyone tried a slantbed lathe??

just curious if anyone has tried to build a slantbed lathe? I was wondering if it would cause issues with G-code or any other issues

No, it shouldn't cause any gcode issues.

Some guys have difficulty visualizing the coordinate system from "underneath", as it were, for a conventional lathe tool position (compared to the cad screen's X+ direction), but it really makes no difference, so long as your cadcam and the machine have the same "axis polarity".
First you get good, then you get fast. Then grouchiness sets in.

(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)

I'm building one at the moment.. it really doesn't make a "lick a' difference" wheter the Cutter is in front or behind the centerline.. you just reverse the motor that's driving the slide... wheter you spin your chuck clockwise or counterclockwise, having righthand or lefthand tools is the only difference really..

    Denford Novaturn

I will be modifying a Novaturn lathe without the controller. Still in the process of tracking down components on Ebay. I am looking for a servo amp or DC controller to drive the spindle servo, 1.6hp, 140 VDC. Will be using EMC2 and probably a MESA card.

I am still gathering parts and will probably use a AMC DC Servo Amp or a KBMG-212D four‑quadrant regenerative DC drive for the spindle motor. See link: KBMG-212D - KB Electronics - DRIVE, DC, 120/240VAC, 11A, CHASSIS, THRU 0.75HP(8A) W/O HEAT SINK, 1.0/2.0 HP WITH HEATSINK, 90/180, .

I will be using Linux CNC (EMC2) and Yaskawa AC Servo Motors and SGDA Servos. The lathe is without the controller.

This is Tim's from dumpsterCNC. I believe he's a member here. There's a couple in the build log section; Guldberg's comes to mind.
