    McMaster-Carr ABS Plastic Types

I've been machining a lot of 1/4" ABS plastic on my benchtop mill. The ABS stock is smooth on one side and rough on the other. Got the stock from ServoCity.

Well, I just bought some 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 inch sheets of "Machinable" ABS plastic from McMasterCarr for the first time. The 1/4" ABS seems flimsy to me. It is smooth on both sides but doesn't seems as dense and rigid as the smooth side/rough side ABS I've been using.

Anyone know the difference between the different types of ABS? I see McMaster also sells "High Tensile Strength" and "High Impact Strength" ABS. Which one is the smooth side/rough side ABS?

    Thanks!

I also machine the smooth/rough stuff I get locally. I think it is high impact. But, just email McMaster, their customer service is great. I get replies during off-hours frequently. They'll give you the scoop.

    cheers,
    Michael

Thanks. I think I might be imagining things. The high impact, high tensile, machinable ABS from McMaster is the same part number. The only other part# was for conductive/flame retardant ABS.

I'll cut some similar part shapes to do an apples to apples comparison.
