im thinking of build a raised panel door machine to build custom cabinet doors i want to use sbr rails from linearmotion2008 from ebay i need to know what size rail to use it will have about 50 inches of x travel and 10 inches of y travel looking for help

You'd be better off buying a shaper, imo. At least 10 times faster for making raised panels.

If you want to make 1 piece pseudo raised panel doors .. a CNC Router would be the ticket.

You need to consider the cost of building a HEAVY machine with a REAL spindle & ample HP for production purposes though. You might be able to get away with a 3.5HP router for lighter use, but you would loose a great deal of production capability due to the need for lighter cuts & less speed. There's some good routers out there these days, but they all seem to lack the serious bearings needed to hold up over long periods under punishing conditions.

If your looking to make 5 piece wood doors .. I'm with ger21 on that .. not much reason for CNC. Multi-stage or multiple shapers is the way to go there. But again, you'll want some real power to cut those panels.

we have a unique cnc raised panel door machine at work and i am trying to make a copy of it the machine can make raised panel doors cathedral doors rails and stiles and a lot of other things i plan on useing a shaper and adding a x and y axis and all other parts to make it work

I'm familiar with the unique door machine but the one I have used was definitely pre-cnc. I believe it was one of the earliest machines they made .. somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 or so years ago.

I'd say the 20mm, but on the X axis, the rails alone won't be enough to stay straight at that length. Whatever you mount them to will need to be very rigid.

the machine we have at work is about 12 or 13 years old it uses parker drives i plan on useing aluminum plate to mount the rails to i will check on the 20mm rails thanks for all the help
