I made a post in general machining section this morning but it seems to have disappeared. anyways, I need some help with calculating the optimum rpm, ipm, rpm, etc.... I have been using a program made by someone else and now I'm in a situation where I need to cut down on the cycle time. I'm working on a haas lathe, if that makes any difference. I have looked at the insert books and cnc programming books but they don't make that much sense to me.

I am just looking for a mentor who I can meet and get some help on how to calculate these numbers.

Have you received any help yet? Where abouts in central NJ are you? I work in Warren, NJ. Travel from PA on I78. Would I be passing near you? Been setting up and programming lathes for almost 23 years. Should be able to help you cut cycle times. Am familiar with insert grades from several suppliers. Does the Haas have live tooling? We have several lathes with C-axis (no Y-axis) so I could be of some help there.
