    torodial output seems odd

I just put 120vac into my torodial.
got 45 vac out of it
put that onto rectifier, got 40Vdc out of rectifier??
    Does this seem right?

I thought this was the math to ball park the output of the rectifier.

    45vac out of torodial x 1.414 = 63.63 volts dc from rectifier?

can someone explain this to me please. (chair)

The 1.414 multilplier only applies to a capacitive smoothed supply, in other words if you are measuring just AC ripple after the bridge, you are now measuring the RMS of a 120Hz ripple, put an electrolytic cap on the bridge output and you will now read the peak, which is RMS x 1.414 less voltage drop for the rectifiers.

    Thanks Al.
So would that be 40 vdc x 1.414
    or
    45 vac x 1.414
after I place the caps in the loop?

Your DC should read approx (45x1.414)-2 . The -2 is to allow volt drop for the two diodes.
