    Drill Rod For Linear Ways

    hi ALL I HAVE 2 CHINA MADE MACHINES LATHE AND MILL CONVERTED TO CNC BUT I WANT SOMETHING BETTER BEEN MACHINIST FOR 22 YEARS CANT GET THESE TO HOLD +,-.001 thinking of building a mill like the minitech 2 mill but use 1 inch drill rod and oilite bearing instead of thomson rod with ball bearing will this work ? thanks all picture at bottom

    My lathe has round ways like your thinking of
    I tried drill rod; it will not stand up; your better off to pay a bit more up front and get Thompson Chromed shafts; i got mine for $36 for $36 inches; thats 1/2" diameter

    I agree with Stevie that "Thomson" should be used or at the minimum you should harden the drill rod 60 - 62HRc
