    OKUMA HOWA ACT 3 Question

We have an older Okuma Howa ACT 3 CNC lathe in our shop. This machine has the FAPT capabilities built in also. Using the FANUC system 3T.

My question is: how to increase the RPM in manual mode? I've went into MDI
and keyed in gear range: M23 for example, G97 S1500, M3. Get the 1500, BUT! when going back to Manual mode, the spindle RPM range remains 44 to 100 also with using the "spindle override" switch.

I would like more RPM for boring jaws manually for example.

I've poured over my parameter list hoping to find the param to changing the default manual RPM setting to no avail.

So far my work around at this point is writing code to skin jaws or bore jaws, and do that in Auto mode, but there are times when it would be quicker to just spin the jaws and skin them manually using the handle encoder.

    Any input would be appreciated...

try tripping the door switch i bet its a safety feature slowing your spindle down when the door opened in manual

No door safety's exist on this machine. I'd have to look at the serial, but I'm guessing this machine was built in the early 80's. 3T Fanuc.

Last shop I worked at had one of these - Okuma Howa Act 3 but with a Fanuc 10T-EF control. It had exactly the same problem. We ended up just inputting our required rpm in MDI.

    Exclamation

This machine is quite a bit older than the others mentioned. Usually, yes
just a MDI speed command remains modal for manual use. NOT on this
    vintage machine.

    I finally figured out the trick;

First go into MDI, key in M25 - input, SXXXX (spindle RPM 1000 for example)
input, then CYCLE START. ((M25 is a gear range))

2nd go into MANUAL, and hold the Feed Hold and Spindle Off buttons simultaneously, (this I guess loads the RPM into modal manual mode)

Now you can utilize the "spindle overide" switch to ON, and you have REVERSE, NORMAL AND OVERIDE FROM 80 TO 120 PERCENT.

Walla! easy breezy manual spinning jaws at your requested RPM.
