Did you clear your cnc machine from customs using a broker or did you do it yourself?

Djayness, Although it is possible to do it yourself, it will cost $150 to have a professional do the job for you.

There are many rules and regulations involved.

Which supplier and machine did you buy?

If you advise which State you are in, we may be able to give you some potential Broker/Receivers names.

If it is a smaller machine around 600 x 900 coming in as LCL freight, it will be around 2k. See some recent posts in the Excitech CNC Router Purchase thread for more details.

Guys I'm writing because I desperately need help on evaluating the taxes for cnc routers shipped to EU

1- I have to understand if taxes would be the same in all EU because I can have my router sent in France or Italy but final destination would be Italy. If I get it in France I have to drive from Strasbourg to Rome, that's an extra 600€ costs to me, and, guys from all over the worl have fun: I'll have to drive an extra 400Km all around Switzerland to avoid crossing customs again!

2- As far as I understood if I buy a small IEHK IEC6090 for 3000$ and get shipment to Italy I'll go pay 20% VAT on the EU extimated value of a CNC router, which is 40000€, plus a 14% custom fee, plus fixed expenses (few euros) for a total of 14000€ approximately taxes on a 3000$ product...

3- Therefore the only way to buy a router outside EU is it to have a friend in Naples at the port customs so that you can pick up your staff for free?

Hi there Paopaolo, I've bought a machine from China and its still 20-30 days away.

I believe that the whole of EU except one country (Denmark) has approximately 20% VAT. You'll have to pay that. If you're a company, you can declare it and get that 20% back, but much later. I don't know if you need to pay 14% customs or not, I believe that its lower than that.

If you get the machine off-loaded in Denmark (on paper, an agent will buy it and reexport it to Italy for you if you need), then you can save on the VAT, however, if you're a company it does not help.

The real hassle is the Italian bureaucracy that is killing companies and artificially elevating the difficulty of doing business here. If you can avoid that through your friends in Naples then its great. But I would suggest to have a very clean slate to avoid any future issues with the system. Even with 34% paid in taxes, it will be cheaper than anything you'll buy here.

I'm pretty sure the scheme you advocate is based on faulty information: Denmark has 25% VAT...

Perhaps for people living in Denmark its a different thing. I'm no expert in import/export taxation, but my friends have purchased aircraft here in Italy, the whole EU wide import gateway is Denmark. I believe that one of the links below is from Price Waterhouse Coopers, a tax consultant not to sneeze at!

BTW the Dannish govt, after pressure from EU is stopping this loophole very very shortly kindly do some search on Google before posting an unhelpful response.

You'd need a really good propeller to make a CNC machine qualify as an aircraft under the "SAS" VAT loophole...e

The lowest VAT rate in the EU is probably here in the UK- 15% until Jan 1st 2010. After this the rate goes back to 17.5%

I don't understand why you must pay VAT on the "estimated" European value of your machine? In the UK you pay VAT on the actual amount of money you paid for the machine- £10,000 for the machine results in £1500 VAT payable.

Heaven knows where the 14% import duty comes from... if you look up the EU Tarric codes I don't think you'll find any CNC machinery which carries this amount of tax. Here in the UK we don't pay anything like this much import duty.
