Franck,
I think this may be what you want. But I still say they are all NOISY!

Lots of pictures in Post 16.

Many thanks for your answer.
Mike,
I think you would be amazed at how much quieter the newer 12 1/2 inch versus a 10 inch IH which is still better than an RF45 in noise production.
My observations from a bit of comparison testing noise was about 50% less on a 12 1/2 IH mill. Difference is from the quality of gear set.

Hi Ken,
I got one of the last few clearance mills from Aaron. And while I can't compare it to any others, I still consider it to be quite loud. Especially at high speed. Quite a bit louder than my HF 12x36 gearhead lathe. But then again, it's been torn down since shortly after I got it, awaiting my lazy butt to CNC it. The ballscrews, nuts, bearings and old Yaskawa servos are in so now I guess I need to get moving.
My new IH mill seems considerably quieter than my Sieg X2 mill. I expected the IH would be much noiser. Of course, people have a different opinions of what loud is.
Greetings, on my machine which was noisy I found that all the key-ways were way over size allowing approximately 10 degrees of play in the drive gears.I ended up making new keys. Don't Know if this helps.
Regards,
Kevin.

Hi Tai42
You are correct about the quietness of the new IH Mills. This is something that our manufacturer and we at IH have been changing in the last three containers. Better ways and a close tolerance gear head, still with our hardened gears for high rpm use.
