There is so much discussion about "dc" voltage stepper motors and drivers, but haven't seen anything about "ac" voltage steppers. I just bought and have recieved some Vexta AC synchronous stepper motors. Model 3049-945. The label shows 115v ac, 0.3 amp at 200 ohm., and the term "RW8" at the bottom.
I purchased these just for the heck of it just to put my hands on one since I am new to cnc. Can these be used for a cnc router such as the ones you all talk about on this site. If so, what type or where do I get the proper drivers for such a stepper. Can someone explain the pros and cons of ac verses dc. I appreciate any info or guidance. Thanks, Tom

I am not sure about the model you have, but in the past I have used Vexta AC steppers, This usually refers to when they are run on 110vac as synchronous motors which gives a high precision low speed rotation (72 & 36 rpm) as they are exactly synched to the incoming supply frequency.
By construction they are usually identical to 2ph 1.8deg steppers, I have not tried them with a conventional stepper driver, but I would imagine the top rpm may be restrictive. Others here may have tried.
