Chinese lates, Sieg,Enco etc, any good?

I have been searching for a late now for a long time and my experience has been that they all look to be from the same factory, with some differences in respect to cross feeds, distance between centers and so on.

So my question is then, is there any quality differences in between the "brands" ?

Here is some of the lathes I have looked at:

    A "producer" from Austria

A "German made one" but looks 100% the same as the others
    http://www.optimum-machines.com/prod...ari/index.html

    A Asian version

A custom Sieg sold in UK and here is the direct link

    Another English supplier

The Sieg looks to be the cheapest, but then I have no idea on quality and it's hard to find any user experiences.

Is there any one I should stay away from? Not recommended ?

    All feedback is highly appreciated.

Most, if not all, of the small chinese lathes are pretty much copies of the Austrian Emco lathes. The differences are price and quality.

There is a group on Yahoo, 8x18Lathe, that deals with the Emoc lathes and you can find a lot of info about both Emco and the chinese 'clones'. There are also some groups that deal with the Sieg lathes and their rebadged equivilents.

I have a Sieg C6 and I'm very happy with it. It's not a toolroom lathe by any stretch of the imagination but once properly set up, is as accurate as I need.
