    438 Invertor abnormal current

    Hello,

Recieved this alarm and need a little help. Fanuc 21iM control and this alarm is on the B Axis. The machine has been rode pretty hard for a few years so we decided to change out B axis motor (rebuilt one) and Cables. After reteaching home machine would run for a bit and same alarm. Diagnostic 200 bit4 and 201 bit4 both =1. We had amplifer (A06B-6096-H103) on self so we swapped it out. The new amp would not work at all. The green power on light never came on.
Reinstall old amp, machine running 30-60 mins then 438 alarm coming back. Should I look at getting another amp or maybe rebuilt motor is not up to par?

btw the amp has 08 alarm when this condition occurs.

    thanks,
    Bob

Sounds like a bad motor, though I did have an issue similar to yours and it turned out to be the axis control card. In either event I would suggest megging the motor.

Also don't rule out a mechanical bind!

    Regards,

    RRL
