Pictures of first part off home built table

I just mounted a Trim Router I bought from Home Depot on my homebuilt CNC table. Take a look at the attached JPGs of a 4.5 inch diameter spur gear I cut out of MDF. I have few questions.

Where can I but a decent lightweight router spindle?

Do you need an adjustable speed spindle for cutting wood and plastics?

    Thx for any help

Hi nice job on the gear. Looking closely it looks like you did the outer cut in two passes? Can I see a bit of a lip going on there; are you loosing steps or could it be a bit of backlash?

Just out of interest how did you hold the material down to the table?

As for cutting wood; imo a variable speed router is a must or you will get burning issues and reduces tool life.

Where to get a spindle from; I will leave that for members on your side of the pond.

    John.

Yes, I took several passed on the outer cut. My ball bushings on my X and Y are tight but my Z has some slop.

I held down the material with 3M double sided PSA tape. Works great.
