    Scary False Alarm

    All,

I had a scare this morning, I was sure my spindle bearings were going bad!

In the middle of a job, the maching started making a loud rumbling sound, and I thought for sure the spindle was bad, because it made the noise even while the table wasn't moving.

Turned out to be a lot simpler, I use a Tormach PDB and the small "leg" that holds the actuator up level, had somehow jumped out of the slot and was allowing the ram to touch the top of the drawbar.

So if you hear weird noises, it just might be something simple.

    Terry

That has happened to me a couple of times. It usually occurs when making heavy cuts.

Mine did exactly the same thing. I seem to recall bending the little bracket to make it more secure. Number of times I have needed to change belt speeds equals exactly zero at this point, so I basically made the leg fixed.
