    Lets talk feed rates (milling)

Okay. I am trying to program haas mill. I am used to lathe feed rates of .015" inches per revolution.

    How do the mills work?

Lathes , generally are programmed in feed units per Rev = G95
this allows you to control the RPM and still maintain the programmed feedrate

Mills on the other hand, can swing both ways (pun), normal progamming is with G94 ( feed units per minute ), this allows feedrate and RPM control to be independant to each other.
setting up a milling program involves many factors, width and depth of cut, # of flutes, work holding, cutter stickout just to name a couple . To fine tune the program separate control of the feed and speed is required

using G95 on a mill is best highlighted when tapping, the programmed feedrate need not be altered if the RPM needs adjustments, just remember to switch back to G94 when finished tapping, or the machine will seem like rapiding all thru the next tool operation.

Downside of using G95 on a mill, if RPM = zero, the machine no move boss
