    Keyway Broach Set

I have a manual keyway broach set (Minuteman Brand). How do you set it up?

The Minuteman broach is used with a bushing/plug sized to the bore to be broached. The bushing/plug has a groove/slot cut thru one side length-wise at the depth required to allow the broach to cut the keyway to the proper depth. Generally the broach is pushed thru with an arbor press.

If it is a larger sized keyway, the bushing/plug slot is cut deeper than finish size. After the first cut on the workpiece, a shim is inserted in the slot of the bushing/plug behind the broach. A second (or more) pass is made with the broach to achieve the final size.

    Hope that helps.
