Help Extreme loss of Torque !

    Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to CNC machines, I have an old gerber AR400 router which I have been running for the past few years without a hitch. Over the holiday period the x-axis has started playing up. At first I thought it was the stepper motor itself ( syn-slo nema 34 ) however when I swop the x-axis motor with the Y motor. .. the same thing happens ( total loss of torque ! )

I have disconnected and individually checked the resistance of each motor wire back through the machine and they all seem fine. .. am I right in assuming there is a problem with the drive board ? ?

I have had a quick search of the cnczone boards with no joy. . . I'd really appreciate your views and opinions

    kind regards

    Dave !

Sounds like you have the problem identified to the drive board. Without schematics it would be a tough one to troubleshoot I would imagine. I saw someone had converted an AR400 to Gecko drives with success, so that might be an option. If I were there in the UK with my test equipment, I would have a go at fixin it for you....

Did you check for abnormal mechanical loading such as binding of slides or ball-screws etc?
