    hard drive on cnc

I read that the hard drive will fail if mounted in a cabinet on the machine.
Why?Is this from vibration?Could the hard drive be mounted in some sort of dampening device or is it better to go with a usb boot ?I have not had a problem yet but.

They could and do fail just sitting on a desktop too.
I have had several of them running on the same base as the machine with no trouble. I guess if the machine bounced around alot, it wouldn't be good, but I haven't seen failure due to any vibrations. If you want to be on the safe side, just stick some rubber feet under the cabinet that houses the electronics. Probably a good idea anyway.
