I need a new tailstock spindle for my lathe project. I'd prefer you use some 4140, 4340, or 8620/30/40 steel (whichever is handy) and even 1018 is good. I'd like a shiny ground finish, so use 1-1/8" dia stock and grind it to 1.0000" +/- 0.0001

It has a 5 & 1/8" (5.1250") long x 1.0000" dia barrel with a 3/16" full length keyway on the bottom and the rear thread is 1/2-10 tpi acme, so, the back of the taper has a through hole that fits a 1/2" ACME threaded rod with a wee bit of clearance.

The taper is #2 MT.

It supposed to look exactly like the South Bend 9" model A tail stock spindle but be 0.060" small in diameter.

I am going to see if i could work up a AutoCAD 2005 dwg/dxf Otherwise a person could replicate a S/B 9" tailstock spindle that is 1.0000" dia for me.

For safety a small radii or a thin 45° chamfer would work on the internally tapered end.
