Hi
How does Edgecam ignore and not machine holes or slots when doing 3d surface machining? Is the a option to do this or do you have to create surfaces on holes etc?
Thanks

When you find the part Features, there's an option to Cap the feature.

Hi
Is there a way to cap features manually using edgecams surfacing tools?
How?
Thank You
i generate wire off the file and use it to create my own suface patches.
the cap feature only works on solids
Hi
What do you mean about wire? A .iges file? Are you using surfacing tools in Edgecam to cover up slots and holes on 3d surfaces? What surfacing comand?
If you are importing a parasolid file and want to cover up slots and holes and not work with featurefinder and use capping there, how do you do it?
Thank You
if the file is a parasolid i create wire like this:
1. create a new layer that is active for the wire to be on
2. select the "solid" pull down
3. select " geometry" from pull down
4. select "edges" and "both" and pick "ok"
5. put cursor on part and tab until whole part highlights
6. click to select whole part while highlighted.
7. the wire will be created on the new layer.
8. take pieces of the wire i need and generate surfaces from the wire with the surface options.
basically the same for an iges except you generate the wire by using the surface tools.
in the surface pull down select "generate" and then "boundries"
then select "base entities" and "tidy base entities" then high light the whole part or just the part of it you need and click enter.
the surface wire takes longer than the solid wire and i tend to get mutliple wire types depending on the file but usually can get what i need.
i hope that answers the question.
if not i'll try agian.
it would sure be great if you could manually create feature caps !!
