These look quite authentic from the notes, and are scanned in high-res...

Yeah..that is the plan. I have been reading a lot of information on the right dimensions, thickness etc, and I was surprised to find something like this directly from Fender....

Just trying to make the model as accurate as possible.....we will see how it comes out...

Did Some Work on the neck...

OK, so I finally got some time to start some work on the neck....here is what I have so far directly from the plans, and EXTREME precision with the mother of all design packages, Solidworks.....

    What do you guys think?

I will do some better renders later, and will also start on the body soon...bear in mind, I am designing the neck to accept a fretboard since I will build it out of rosewood separately, and if needed later, I can easily modify the model to be one piece.....OH, the design tree in Solidworks is an amazing invention when it comes to going back and modifying the model....

A friend of mine recently got the Eric Johnson signature, and a lot of the dimensions and design elements on this are from his guitar...

    Hi,

    Nice drawings & pics!

The -62 re-issue reminds us of the great Shadows' heydays!

I thought I post some pictures of my 2004 American Stratocaster, Maple Neck & Chrome Blue for your reference.

    Hello,

That is a nice guitar! Thanks for sharing with us these pictures. What is also always helpful, are "profile" shots of the body and the neck contours. This way, the "tummy" tuck and the arm rest can be modeled more accurately.

    Thanks again!

    Thanks CyborgCNC,

I will think of that next time.

And why don't we all contribute with pictures of the original guitars, we all try to replicate or modify?

That way the models and toolpaths gets much more accurate.

Besides it is always nicer to read a post with a nice pic or two.

    Keep up the good work...

    Solidworks Practice

Spent a little time practicing with Solidworks. It appears that the Jem drawing is not quite to scale, as the dimensions don't match. I used the image as a background, and traced the outline, but followed the dimensions for the cutouts. I'm a bit unsure of the back side tremolo routes (maybe a little on the front as well ) Just a little more work and it's done.

The jem image file on the net is way out as i have compared it to an original.

I tried rotating the image myself and the outline of the body is still out!!!!!!

CNC Viking, and all others, I have the same blue AmStrat and digitized it. This is a stripped and stroked wire model for the community to critique. Yes, this is derived from my solid model and those who know can re-create the solid. Please check the dimensions. The 1962 print was passed around 20 years ago, it is of limited use, that's why I digitized the curves and note that the shape has point/slope continuity. (if ya know what that is). You can machine to this model, I am.

Wow, I'm not familiar with JEM model and due that can't judge about it, but Strat looks so detailed! Thanks for sharing.
P.S. It would be fine that there is another part of these blueprints which shows necks too.

Thanks for sharing. I have no router but you never know. I really like to watch you guys building that amazing Strat, since I have one of my own.
And it is always nice to have as much info as possible of a legend like this.
