Hi All,

I am new to welding and have a few basic questions. I am using a MillerMatic 210 with .030 solid wire and 75/25 gas. All material is mild steel. When I want to weld materials I open the side cover of the machine and look at the chart for my wire speed and power settings. But I have two situations that the chart does not address.

1.If I want to weld a 1/8” wall pipe to a 1/4” thick flange should I use the values for 1/8” or 1/4” thick material or a combination of both or just a different technique. When metals are this thick does it matter? At what differences in thickness does it mater?

2.If I want to weld .046” thick sheet metal to 1/8” thick walled tubes do I set the machine up for 1/8” thick and then just keep the weld puddle on the 1/8” thick material mostly and just let the very edge of the puddle contact the .046” thick material.

Yes you are correct,You need the amperage for penetration point the arc at the thicker material

Always set up for the thickest material and ajust your gun position and speed so you dont burn through anywhere ,if you dont set up for the thicker material you run the risk of putting in a cold weld good luck greg b
