I have a Bridgeport Interact 412 with a FANUC AC SPINDLE MOTOR MODEL 6. How is speed controlled? Is the voltage adjusted, current adjusted or frequency adjusted?
Will a VFD work on this type of motor?

I wonder what the RPM vs. FREQUENCY ratio is? The motor plate has nothing about Frequency or a Frequency Range.
At 60Hz, what is the RPM? I use VFDs on my BP Knee mills, but those motors are simple 60Hz is 1750RPM(or whatever...)
I am hesitant to connect up the new VFD to this motor.

The intermediate use is rated is around 10HP or 7.25hp continuous, so you will need a suitable sized VFD, you may have a problem finding one to run on 1 ph at that size, if that is what you had in mind.

At 60hz the rpm will be 60hz x 60sec = 3600 divided by the pole-pair (2).
so 3600/2 = 1800 less any slip.
So to achieve 6000 rpm with this motor, the frequency would be set to 200hz.
This is a vector rated motor, the insulation and balancing is manufactured accordingly.

DRIVESWAREHOUSE.COM now has 7.5HP and a 10HP 220VAC Single Phase Input VFDs. I was planning to use the 7.5HP on this motor.
What are your thoughts on this?

It looks a pretty decent unit, with some nice features, self tuning would have been nice, but otherwise should do the trick.
It also takes encoder feedback (with the option) for almost like servo control. Although I have found in these cases you need an external braking resister as the control is so tight.

try www.automationdirect.com and look at the durapulse vfd. I just bought a 5hp vfd for my milltronics partner 4 and it was very straightforward to install. after tweaking the parameters to match my machine it works PERFECT. It only ran me about 365.00 after shipping. just a thought..
