    Defining stock shape

Is there any way to define in MC (MC9 Router or Mill) custom stock shape? If I want to mill a pyramid, and my actual stock shape looks close to pyramid, how do I define it in MC to avoid unnecessary air cutting? Or there may be a way to suppress toolpaths to some custom geometry?
    Any help highly appreciated,
    Joe

    Joe,
I would love to see this one answered myself. I have used other cad\cam packages, and MC seems to be behind the others in this aspect. If the option is there, then it's not easy to find.

    Thanks for reply dmealer,
So for now I am stuck with drawing boundaries smaller at the top, increasing in size towards the base of pyramid, and creating roughing programs for each of them.

You can't define anything besides square and round stock in Job Setup.

BUT... you can use an STL file for the stock shape. After you create the SLT, go to Verify, click the configuration button, click FILE from STOCK/SHAPE, then open the STL from the STOCK FILE box.

This is true Red, I do it all the time. But can you get MasterCam to use this stock in it's calculations for it's tool path? Any stock you define, STL or not, seems to be just for represntational purpouses only.<Spelling stinks....LOL. I have used software that will start calculating the tool path from the edge of whatever stock you have set for it, so you don't have to alter depth cuts or other attributes to get the path you are looking for.

    Hİ,

    I am using mastercamX.
At Rough Flowline operation I cant define stock.
I am writing stock parameters but Mastercam didn't use stock.
Tool must starts operations on top of stocks, but tool starts operations top of part.
    How can define stock?

And I want to define stock with stl file.
I can load stl file but mastercam doesnt use this stock.
Tool starts operation top of part.
I want to machine to cast iron.
I must define amorph shape stock.
And mastercam must use this stock.
    How can I do?

    Thank you very much.

When you open the "Drive Geometry" dialog box
you can seclect/deselect surfaces or faces

there is also a button "CAD", this is for you to select 1 CAD file ( usually a STL of every thing done up until this operation )

Before running verify, set STL resolution to be a coarse setting.
If you set the STL accuracy too fine, as it will give memory allocation errors when using the STL in toolpath calculations, or it will take a long time to process
