    AMPLIFIER FAULT ON AXIS X:

Means there could be a problem with your X-axis amplifier and/or motor. Try switching the amplifier from the X to the Y axis to see where the problem is.

YOU MUST ENTER THE BACKLASH TABLE (SEE THE BL COMMAND):

Type BL and tell me what you see.

    NO PARAMETERS OR PARAMETERS CORRUPTED:

You have to delete the parameters and reload the SETP.

YOU MUST ENTER THE SETP COMMAND:

Select the size of the machine, RPM of the spindle, etc.

Is this machine new for you? Is the first time you've had it on? give us a little more history.

"AMPLIFIER FAULT ON AXIS X" I've seen this occure if the axis is all the way against one side of the travel the limit and you turn the machine on. But, not with the rest of the messages. To see if you can fix the problem I'm referring to... Turn the machine off and reach under the left side of the table and hand turn the ballscrew away from the limit by at least 2 or 3 inches. You may have to take the left way cover off that axis to do this if you cannot just reach under that side, I don't recall, as I had my machine half apart when I did it.

My VMC 15XT is also a 1996, but I didn't get the other messages when I had the "AMPLIFIER FAULT ON AXIS X" message.

If this works... punch the jog button... and move all axis to their CS positions before anything else. Hope I'm not telling you stuff you already know(chair)

You need to clear the memory:
    RI (enter)
yes or no to the next lines.
    Then setp (enter)
Look inside pendant for parameter settings.

    Pertti--
The RI command will not do the job here. You need to do a complete ZERO MEMORY procedure. Then you can work on the axis fault issue. Call me and I'll send you the Zero Memory procedure-- 818 727-2100 option #4.

We had this issue come up on one of our 4020 except it was the Z axis amplifier. I removed the amp and found that one of the SMD capacitors had blown and took out two mosfets in the process. We repaired it for 15 dollars which is way cheaper than a Fadal replacement. If you are comfortable with soldering and electronics this could be a cost effective route for you as far as the amp goes. Good luck.

I think you can just press the MDI button. Then enter the code. It won't hurt to try. If it was me, I would call Neal...
