After making a dapra-type scraper, grinding some carbide blanks, I realized just how much a power scraper would help. For some reason, I cannot believe how absurd the prices are for Biax scrapers in the US. It's a crime. I couldn't seem to find a low-mile biax for under $800-900 w/shipping.
Absolutely crazy prices!
For anyone else in this same boat, try ebay Germany or UK. I routinely found deals that were so much less that it was worthwhile to even pay airmail, and duty if they hit you with it and still come out paying almost half price. Germany uses 220V and UK 110V, so keep that in mind. I paid $440 US for a very nice heavy duty unit with accessories (BS40) from the UK, and I paid for it by airmail on top of it, received it in LESS than a week, switched out the plug and we're scraping ways. Don't worry about the motors, they don't care if it's 50 or 60 hz.
